Program Director: Keith R. McCrae, MD
Professor of Medicine-Hematology/Oncology
The Hematology Training Grant Program is designed to equip participants for investigative careers in academic hematology by combining (1) active research experience using basic modern techniques of cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, genetics and related disciplines with (2) didactic exercises leading to a scholarly, comprehensive understanding of current concepts of the pathophysiology of blood disorders. Approximately 80-90% of the trainee's time will be devoted to their research projects. Prior to or upon entry into the program, the trainee will choose a mentor from the Program Faculty and in consultation with this mentor and other faculty members with relevant expertise, select a suitable research project.
Candidates admitted into the Hematology Training Program will make a major commitment to learn and apply the techniques of clinical and laboratory investigation in the scholarly pursuit of significant research programs and under the guidance of selected members of the Medical School Faculty.
