GI Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE)


In September 2011, the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center was awarded an $11.3 million research grant to establish a GI SPORE- GI Cancers Research Center at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU).

With this designation, CWRU joins only six other nationally recognized GI Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) Center in the country. Researchers from CWRU, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and Cleveland Clinic, all members of the cancer center, collaborate in the research effort.

Request for Project Proposals

The Case GI SPORE has released the following requests for project proposals: 

GI SPORE Developmental Research Project (DRP) Grant
Deadline: May 18, 2018

DRP proposals will be considered for any GI malignancy, priority consideration will be given to proposals focused on non-colorectal GI malignancies. Developmental Research Projects in the area of Pancreatic Cancer are encouraged.

GI SPORE Career Enhancement Program (CEP) Award 
Deadline: May 18, 2018 

All proposals must be directed towards translational research of a GI malignancy, with at least one specific aim that involves direct study of patients or human materials.

Case Gastrointestinal Cancers SPORE Retreat

Registration is open for the Case GI Cancers SPORE Annual Retreat, May 18, 2018 at the Tinkham Veale University Center.

Call for Abstracts
All trainees and fellows are invited to submit poster abstracts to Dr. John Wang ( by May 1, 2018.
