REGULATION OF CELL DEATH – APOPTOSIS AND AUTOPHAGY

SUMMARY
This Focus Group is composed of Cancer Center members who share a common interest in regulation of cell death in cancer cells. The overall goal is to foster collaborative research that capitalizes on the expertise of individual laboratories to collectively gain improved insight into mechanisms of cell death. The overall long range goal is to develop basic understanding that will identify novel biological targets for cancer treatment.
Two central themes that are emerging are: Mechanism of Bim regulation in response to a wide range of apoptosis inducers; and, novel approaches to regulating Bcl-2 protein family members as therapeutic targets.
