Dr. Oscar D. RatnoffDr. Oscar D. Ratnoff, former Chief of Hematology and Oncology and Interim Chairman of the Department of Medicine of University Hospitals, passed away on May 20, 2008. In light of his passing, we would like to take the chance to highlight some of his greatest medical research achievements. Drs. Stanton Gerson and Nathan Berger recently wrote an article entitled, "Oscar D. Ratnoff: Champion of Clotting" for The Hematologist: Profiles in Hematology. The article is a very nice homage to the man who made many medical breakthroughs, including the discovery of Factor XII, and the linking of hemophilia as a risk factor for AIDS.
