FUNDING OPPORTUNITY– Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation AwardThe Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award is designed to provide support for the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with "high risk/high reward" ideas that have the potential to significantly impact our understanding of and/or approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer. This award is specifically designed to provide funding for extraordinary early career researchers who have an innovative new idea but lack sufficient preliminary data to obtain traditional funding. It is not designed to fund incremental advances. The research supported by the award must be novel, exceptionally creative and, if successful, have the strong potential for high impact in the cancer field. Pre-proposal deadline is June 2. For more information, please click here. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY– Doris Duke CSDA Bridge GrantThe Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is accepting applications for CSDA Bridge Grants. The purpose of the Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award (CSDA) Bridge Grant is to provide one-time bridging grants to eligible CSDA recipients whose new submission for an NIH R01 grant received excellent scores and supportive critiques but did not reach the cutoff for funding. The idea is to "bridge" the time between when an investigator learns of a very strong but unfunded score on an NIH application to when s/he is able to successfully obtain an R01 grant. Please note that this program is limited to New Investigator R01 submissions that are likely to be funded during the next year. Applications to other funding mechanisms and R01-A2 reviewed applications are not eligible. Eligible CSDA recipients are welcome to submit applications throughout the year up to the deadline of September 1; however, awardees will not be selected or notified until November 17, 2008.
