New Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core Facility

The former Case CCC Biostatistics Core Facility has undergone some significant changes! Now called the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core Facility, this shared resource has brought on genetic epidemiologist and biostatistician Dr. Jill Barnholtz-Sloan as Co-Director and expanded services in bioinformatics including:

  • Analysis of high throughput "omics" data, including but not limited to, array-based and next generation sequencing data; and
  • Study design and protocol development for use of high throughput "omics" data in human and animal studies of cancer.

Further descriptions of services and updated policies and fees are on the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core Facility website. Facility Director Dr. Mark Schluchter and Co-Directors Drs. Paul Elson and Jill Barnholtz-Sloan are also available to answer your questions.

November CTSC Core Utilization Award Recipients

Congratulations to the recipients of the November CTSC Core Utilization Awards:

  • Ritu Chakravarti, PhD: Identification of post-translational modifications on 14-3-3 in Vasculitis
  • David Serre, PhD: Simultaneous Reconstruction of Multiple Haploid Plasmodium vivax Genomes from Complex Infections by Dilution Separation and Genome Sequencing
  • Liwen Wang, PhD: HIV-1 antigen

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES/AWARDS

American Cancer Society IRG Awards

The Case CCC, with funds from its American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant, will provide seed money to foster cancer research by junior faculty who have no current national grant support of their own. Investigators in the CWRU School of Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine as well as in other schools and colleges in the University are eligible. Grants, not to exceed $30,000, will be awarded to investigators who intend to gather preliminary data to be used in seeking future and independently funded programs.

TRCCC Annual Meeting: The Power of Negative Thinking: Inhibiting the Inhibitors of Tumor Immunity

Registration is open for the 16th Annual Meeting of the Translational Research Cancer Centers Consortium (TRCCC), The Power of Negative Thinking: Inhibiting the Inhibitors of Tumor Immunity. Held February 20-22 at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Seven Springs, PA, this meeting will feature two symposiums focused on Tumor-mediated Immune Suppression and Vaccine and Cellular Therapy, with spotlight sessions on Imaging and Viral Vectors. The agenda will also include a poster session. Researchers, institutional officials, and students are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations by February 4.
