FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Research Grants

The Oncology Nursing Society Foundation is accepting applications for the 2013 Research Grant funding cycle. These grant awards are designed to support oncology nursing research conducted by beginning and experienced researchers. The principal investigator must be actively involved in some aspect of cancer patient care, education, or research, and be PhD- or DNSc-prepared or a student working toward one of those research degrees. Funding preference is given to projects that involve nurses in the design and conduct of the research activity and that promote theoretically based oncology practice. Membership in ONS is not required for eligibility.

In addition, the ONS Foundation has partnered with other organizations to offer the following four grants. All of these specific grants use the RE01 Research Grant application. Please indicate on the RE01 grant application which, if any, of the specific grants you would like to be considered for:

  • Certification, Nursing Education, and/or Outcomes Research Grant: Sponsored by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation
  • Neuro-Oncology Research Grant: Sponsored by the American Brain Tumor Association
  • Trish Greene Pain Assessment and Management Research Grant: Sponsored by Purdue Pharma
  • ONS/Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation for Nursing: Sponsored by ONS and the Sigma Theta Tau International Foundation for Nursing

Application Deadline: October 1

AACR 2013 Scientific Awards and Lectureship

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is now accepting nominations for its series of annual awards and lectureships. Scientists advancing the understanding and eradication of cancer through basic research, clinical care, therapeutics, and prevention are eligible. Recipients will be honored at the AACR Annual Meeting 2013, which will be held April 6-10, 2013, in Washington, D.C.

  • The AACR–American Cancer Society Award for Research Excellence in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention was established to honor outstanding research accomplishments in the fields of cancer epidemiology, biomarkers and prevention. Candidacy is open to all cancer researchers who are affiliated with any institution involved in cancer research, cancer medicine, or cancer-related biomedical science anywhere in the world.
  • The AACR Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research recognizes a true champion of cancer research who embodies the sustained commitment of Margaret Foti to the prevention and cure of cancer. The award is given to an individual whose leadership and extraordinary achievements in cancer research or in support of cancer research have made a major impact on the field. Such achievements include contributions to the acceleration of progress in cancer research, raising national or international awareness of cancer research, or other demonstrations of a sustained commitment to the conquest of cancer. Candidacy is open to all individuals who are affiliated with any institution that supports cancer research or any institution involved in cancer research, cancer medicine, or cancer-related biomedical science anywhere in the world.
  • The AACR Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research honors an individual who has made significant, fundamental contributions to cancer research, either through a single scientific discovery or a body of work. These contributions, whether they have been in research, leadership or mentorship, must have had a lasting impact on the cancer field and must have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to progress against cancer. Nominations may be made on behalf of individuals who are living at the time of the nomination.
  • The AACR Princess Takamatsu Memorial Lectureship is presented to a scientist whose novel and significant work had or may have a far-reaching impact on the detection, diagnosis, treatment or prevention of cancer, and who embodies the princess' dedication to multinational collaborations. Candidacy is open to all individuals who are affiliated with any institution involved in cancer research, cancer medicine, or cancer-related biomedical science anywhere in the world.
