CASE CCC IN THE NEWSWalking Away From Breast Cancer US advisers shoot down Sanofi anti-clotting drug New CWRU fellowship helps nonprofits probe urban health issues FUNDING OPPORTUNITIESGI SPORE Scholars Training ProgramThe Case GI SPORE will fund two new Research Scholars in the upcoming academic year, 2012-2013. Support at the level of $50,000/year for 2 years will be provided by funds from the NCI and the CWRU SOM through the Case GI SPORE. This program is designed to support research training leading to independent careers in translational GI Cancer research. Awardees are expected to devote 70% effort to research and training, will conduct a mentored research program in the laboratory or program of one of the SPORE Investigators and have an assigned mentoring team. Applicants must be US citizens. They must have a faculty appointment at the time the scholarship begins or be in the senior year of a training program with a department commitment to a faculty appointment during the first scholarship year. Opportunity is available to faculty members at CWRU, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth Medical Center, UHCMC or Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. Deadline: June 29 American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant AwardsThe Case CCC, with funds from its American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant (IRG), will provide seed money to foster cancer research by junior faculty who have no current national grant support of their own. Investigators in the Case School of Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine as well as in other schools and colleges in the University are eligible. Grants, not to exceed $30,000 direct costs, will be awarded to investigators who intend to gather preliminary data to be used in seeking future and independently funded programs. Letter of Intent Deadline: July 9 Diagnostic Development Tutorial Attendee GrantASCO is seeking applications for grants to attend the Markers in Cancer 2012 Diagnostic Development Tutorial: Developing Biomarkers for Clinical Practice: From Hypothesis to Product. This Tutorial is being held in Hollywood, Florida, October 10-11, in conjunction with the Markers in Cancer 2012 Meeting. This opportunity is open to physicians and scientists who are within the first 8 years after training holding an MD, PhD or both; are familiar with the basics of Clinical Trial Design; are working on Biomarkers or Molecular Diagnostics and on a project which is ready for clinical development; and working in an environment which would benefit directly from increased knowledge of trial design. Applicants should be an ASCO Full member, ASCO Full Member- discounted dues, and/or an EORTC member. You will be asked to indicate your membership affiliation during the application process. If you are not an ASCO or EORTC member, and you are selected to receive the grant, you must join ASCO in order to receive the award. Deadline: July 13 American Cancer Society Clinical Research ProfessorThe American Cancer Society offers a limited number of grants to mid-career investigators who have made seminal contributions in the area of cancer control that have changed the direction of clinical, psychosocial, behavioral, health policy or epidemiologic cancer research. Furthermore, it is expected that these investigators will continue to provide leadership in their research area. Cowden Foundation, in collaboration with the Case CCC, Seidman Cancer Center and Taussig Cancer Institute, presents the 2012 National GvHD Health Symposium at the Embassy Suites Cleveland-Rockside on Friday, November 2. This unique one-day conference, will consist of two tracks: one designed for physicians and other health care professionals, and one for bone-marrow transplant (BMT) survivors, their families, and their caregivers. Both tracks will focus on cutting edge research and new treatments. Registration will later this summer. | EVENTS
