Chordoma Foundation

The Chordoma Foundation is offering peer-reviewed grants to support investigator-initiated research projects that will advance the development of effective treatments for chordoma. These one to two year seed grants are intended to enable investigators to start projects, test hypotheses, or generate preliminary data that could help leverage additional funding sources and lead to sustained chordoma research programs.

LOI Deadline: July 15
Application Deadline: August 15

Case CCC Clinical Trials Funding Opportunity

The Case Comprehensive Cancer Center is announcing the availability of Protocol Specific Research Support (PSRS) funding for Year 2011. The budgeted funds are for the conduct of early phase clinical trial and restricted to support research nurses and data managers directly involved in the conduct of these clinical trials. Studies developed jointly between UH and CCF with planned accrual at both institutions will be prioritized. Please direct questions and requests for information about the funding process to Katarzyna Karelus, Administrative Director, Case Comprehensive Cancer Center Clinical Research Office, at (216) 368-6287 or katarzyna.karelus@case.edu.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tanyanika Phillips-Towe Named "Unsung Hero" by the North Coast Nurses Coalition

Congratulations to Tanyanika Phillips-Towe, MD for the announcement this week of her selection as an "Unsung Hero" by the North Coast Nurses Coalition. The mission of the NCNC is to "provide health education and advocacy for equal access to healthcare services for all." This award "honors those individuals in the community who impact the lives of others through their grassroots efforts and commitments."

New Federal Mandate to Report Clinical Trial Results in clinicaltrials.gov

A new federal mandate requires reporting of clinical trial results in clinicaltrials.gov. U.S. Public Law 110-85 (Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007), Title VIII, Section 801, mandates that certain clinical trials have to be registered and results have to be reported in clinicaltrials.gov. More information is available on the: Protocol Registration System.

The Case CCC Research Coordinator for clinicaltrials.gov has been registering applicable trials in clinicaltrials.gov on the investigators and study teams behalf. This announcement serves as a notification that in the upcoming months, we will be contacting investigators and research teams whose trials have been registered in clinicaltrials.gov to obtain certain information and to assist investigators in reporting trial results. Please direct questions to April Firstencel, Research Coordinator for Clinicaltrials.gov, Case CCC; 216-286-2294; april.firstencel@uhhospitals.org.

Revised Case Cancer IRB Consent Template Now Available

The new Case Cancer IRB Consent Template (version dated 3-24-2011) is now available on the Case Cancer IRB website. As revised consent forms are received, the Case Cancer IRB asks the format and language be updated in current consents to be consistent with the new consent template. This will be especially important for new clinical trials that will need to include FDA mandated language as per 21 CFR 50.52, for example. Please contact Mariesa Malinowski, Administrative Director, Case Cancer IRB, with any questions.

FDA Issues New Draft Guidance on Financial Disclosure

The FDA has issued new draft guidance, "Financial Disclosure by Clinical Investigators, Guidance for Clinical Investigators, Industry, and FDA Staff". This guidance is intended to assist clinical investigators, industry, and FDA staff in interpreting and complying with the regulations governing financial disclosure by clinical investigators, 21 CFR part 54. Comments to the draft guidance are due by July 25, 2011.
