FUNDING OPPORTUNITY– Acceleration Grant Opportunities in Cellular Molecular Imaging of Cancer, Cancer Biology, TherapeuticsAcceleration funding is available for investigative interdisciplinary teams with broad expertise in cancer biology, molecular imaging/imaging, pharmacology, genetics for opportunities to explore aspects of cancer biology with non-invasive imaging technologies. This funding is designed to specifically provide the resources to fully develop ongoing projects for inclusion in ICMIC application, and is open to eligible faculty members with cancer focused funded research Selected projects that will be used as the basis for a Summer 2010 P50 In-vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging Center (ICMIC) grant and other future independent grants. Funding priority will be given for the following criteria: Deadline: September 15 Contact Marianne Sperk at Marianne.sperk@case.edu for more information and application instructions. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY– DOD Lung Cancer Research Program Concept AwardThe LCRP Concept Award mechanism supports the exploration of a highly innovative new concept or untested theory that addresses an important problem relevant to lung cancer. The Concept Award is not intended to support a logical progression of an already established research project but, instead, allows Principal Investigators (PIs) the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation. Proposals must describe how the new idea will enhance the existing knowledge of lung cancer or create an entirely new avenue for investigation. Submissions from and partnerships with investigators at Military Medical Treatment Facilities, Military labs, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers and research laboratories are encouraged. Research completed through a Concept Award may generate sufficient preliminary data to enable the PI to prepare a proposal for future research. Successful programs have: culturally-competent educational strategies; dedicated staff with specialized language and communications skills; and participation from members of the targeted community who can reach women where they live, work and worship, and who offer personalized assistance to women for whom it is often difficult to access health care.
