CASE CCC IN THE NEWSLung Cancer Study to be Done in Cleveland KUDOS- Case CCC Members Honored at Crain's Cleveland Business 2009 Health Care Heroes LuncheonAt a luncheon last week, Dr. Sanford Markowitz was named Crain's Cleveland Business 2009 Health Care Hero for Advancements in Health Care. Dr. Markowitz was recognized for his work in developing a DNA screening test as a less invasive option for colon cancer screening Dr. Lee Ponsky, founder of MedWish International, a nonprofit committed to the recovery and recycling of usable medical supplies health care providers must discard, was a finalist in the Health Care Advocate category. For more information, please click here. KUDOS– Drs. Gary Falk and Amitabh Chak Co-Author Barrett's Esophagus Study Published in "New England Journal of Medicine"Congratulations to Drs. Gary Falk and Amitabh Chak, who co-authored the study, Radiofrequency Ablation in Barrett's Esophagus with Dysplasia, which was published in the May 28, 2009 issue of the "New England Journal of Medicine". MARK YOUR CALENDARS– Prostate Cancer Forum: A Pathway to Support, Education and EmpowermentProstate Cancer Forum: A Pathway to Support, Education and Empowerment, is an all-day forum that will cover a variety of topics, including sexuality, osteoporosis, genetic issues, incontinence, and complementary therapies. All sessions are open to spouses, significant others and family members. This event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20 from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm at Corporate College East, 4400 Richmond Road, Warrensville Heights. Cancer Center members Drs. Edward Cherullo, Jay Ciezki, Douglas Einstein, and Charles Nock are scheduled to present. This program is free, but advance registration is required. MARK YOUR CALENDARS– Race for the PlaceJoin The Gathering Place on Sunday, June 7, National Cancer Survivors Day, for the 9th Annual Race for the Place, a 5k run/walk and 1-mile walk. The race starts at 9:15 am at Beachwood Mall on the upper level parking lot between Dillards and Nordstrom with several pre-race activities beginning at 8:00 am. MARK YOUR CALENDARS– Ohio Collaborative Conference on Bioinformatics (OCCBIO)The fourth annual Ohio Collaborative Conference on Bioinformatics (OCCBIO) will be hosted by Case Western Reserve University on June 15-17. The conference provides an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of methods, research findings, and experiences. An important goal for the conference is to foster long-term collaborative relationships and networking opportunities within the domain of computational approaches to biology that benefit Ohio. The Pan Ohio Hope Ride will take cyclists from Cleveland to Cincinnati in a four-day tour through Ohio's scenic countryside from July 30 - August 2.
