MARK YOUR CALENDARS– Case CCC Basic Science Faculty CandidatesPlease mark your calendars for the following Faculty Candidate presentations: Chalk Talk: Candidate: Sang-Oh Yoon, Ph.D., Research Fellow, Department of Cell Biology, Harvard Medical School Chalk Talk: FUNDING OPPORTUNITY– Komen/ASCO Medical Student RotationThe ASCO Medical Student Rotation, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, provides 8-to-10-week clinical or clinical research oncology rotations for U.S. medical students from populations underrepresented in medicine who are interested in pursuing oncology as a career. Recipients receive a $5,000 stipend for the rotation plus $1,500 for future travel to the ASCO Annual Meeting. An additional $2,000 will be provided to support the student's mentor. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in a DO or MD U.S. medical school program and be of an underrepresented population as defined by the program eligibility criteria. Applicants self-identify and recipients are drawn from this pool. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents. Candidates also must demonstrate an interest in pursuing oncology as a career and have a record of good academic standing. For details, please click here. Deadline: February 20, 2009 FUNDING OPPORTUNITY– Komen/ASCO Resident Travel AwardThe ASCO Resident Travel Award, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, provides financial support for residents from underrepresented populations to attend ASCO's Annual Meeting. The intention of this award is to attract residents from under-represented populations to a possible career in one of the oncology specialties. This travel award will allow the recipients to travel to the ASCO Annual Scientific Meeting, where they will have an opportunity to meet oncologists and to understand the career possibilities in this area. The Resident Travel Award includes a $1,500 travel advance, complimentary Annual Meeting registration, and access to the Annual Meeting housing block and ASCO's travel agent. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency program required for future training in a cancer related subspecialty (i.e., Internal Medicine considering Med/Onc, Surgery considering Surg/Onc) and be of an underrepresented population as defined by the program eligibility criteria. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals or permanent residents. Candidates must demonstrate an interest in pursuing oncology as a career as well as a record of good academic standing. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY– AACR Stand Up To CancerThe AACR is pleased to announce a call for Letters of Intent for Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) Innovative Research Grants. These grants, established in honor of the late Judah Folkman, MD, are open to independent investigators early in their careers and will fund novel, high-risk, high-reward cancer research proposals that have significant potential for translational application and hold great promise for advancing SU2C's overarching goal of improving and saving the lives of patients. Applicants must be tenure-track, independent investigators, who have completed their training no more than 7 years prior to the start of the grant term. That is, the applicant's first independent position must have started on or after August 2, 2002. Postdoctoral fellows, clinical research fellows, or any other researchers-in-training who are working under the direction of a scientific mentor are not eligible to apply. Proposals may focus on any discipline within basic, translational, or clinical research, provided that these criteria are met. The conference provides an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of methods, research findings, and experiences in the area of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. An important goal of the conference is to foster long-term collaborative relationships and networking opportunities within the domain of computational approaches to biology that benefit Ohio. OCCBIO invites researchers in the broad area of bioinformatics to submit their unpublished work to the conference. The conference proceedings will be indexed.
