NCI Cancer Center Site Visit

The site visit is tomorrow! We will spend our day without cell phones and email at Thwing Center Excelsior Ballroom showcasing our Cancer Center.

There has simply been an incredible amount of work put into the preparations, presentations and updating every data element of the Center. Staff, members, leaders and Associate Directors have put in 18 hour days and weekends making sure everything is in place for the unknown scrutiny that is inevitable during a site visit. For those of you who have worked to make this site visit impeccable, please accept my sincere appreciation. For those of you participating, make sure to give feedback and notes of appreciation to your program leaders, core directors, and to the effort of the clinical trials offices who have brought the incredible complexity of clinical research down to earth.

If you were thinking of dropping in, please contact Bonnie West ( or Gillian Todd ( as soon as possible today because many are invited and we want to know who is coming, both for crowd management and name tags. Also, we will have a post site visit reception in the Thwing second floor poster session room starting just after the site visitors leave at 5 pm. Please join us.

I have been looking through my slides and the story we get to tell is rather incredible. The Cancer Center has come a long way, has entrenched itself into the culture of the Cleveland academic community, and has the full backing of the institutional leaders. Our job is simply to make it the best cancer research and treatment site in the country. While the effort has been extraordinary, it is worth it for the benefit it brings Cleveland, our institutions and our patients.

See you tomorrow!
