All members should have recently received a draft of the Case CCC Strategic Plan for 2012-2018. This plan represents the efforts and discussion of the entire membership, Program Leaders, Executive Committee, and institutional leaders. It will be the basis for our renewal application and for institutional commitments for the coming 6 years.
Thoughts on gaps, and critical perspectives and needs are greatly appreciated. You may send any comments to me firstname.lastname@example.org. All feedback will be discussed by the Executive Committee.

I want to remind everyone the first Seminar Series presentation of the fall semester will be this Friday, September 9 at 12 pm in BRB 105. Guest speaker, Stephen Taplin, MD, MPH, will discuss Interfaces Between Primary and Subspecialty Care Across the Cancer Care Continuum. Dr. Taplin is Acting Branch Chief of the Process of Care Research Branch (PCRB), Behavioral Research Program (BRP) in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) at the NCI. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of cancer screening, and is currently working with a variety of investigators to consider new issues in cancer screening the evaluation of multilevel contextual effects on health care delivery across the cancer continuum.
Please plan on attending this and future seminar series presentations, which will focus on cutting-edge clinical, translational, and basic research topics in cancer.

New Research Staff Orientation Session
This orientations session is mandatory for all new SCC and TCI research staff and is open to staff from other departments and institutes conducting clinical trials in oncology. Topics will cover an overview of: Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and P30 grant; joint meetings and initiatives; review and monitoring committees; clinical trials reporting requirements; study and sponsor types; IND/IDE; monitoring and auditing and biostatistics; processes and Standard Operating Procedures; and OnCore Clinical Trials Management System.
Research Staff Continuing Education Sessions
These continuing education sessions are mandatory for all SCC and TCI research staff and is open to staff from other departments and institutes conducting clinical trials in oncology. Topics will cover an overview of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, updates and Standard Operating Procedures. Break-out sessions will cover the joint site initiation visit during from several perspectives such as regulatory, nursing, data management and quality assurance.

A new federal mandate requires reporting of clinical trial results in clinicaltrials.gov. U.S. Public Law 110-85 (Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007), Title VIII, Section 801, mandates that certain clinical trials have to be registered and results have to be reported inclinicaltrials.gov. More information is available on the:Protocol Registration System.
The Case CCC Research Coordinator for clinicaltrials.gov has been registering applicable trials in clinicaltrials.gov on the investigators and study teams behalf. This announcement serves as a notification that in the upcoming months, we will be contacting investigators and research teams whose trials have been registered in clinicaltrials.gov to obtain certain information and to assist investigators in reporting trial results. FUNDING OPPORTUNITIESHHMI Medical Research Fellows Program
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute is accepting applications for the Medical Research Fellows Program, which supports a year of full-time biomedical research training for medical, dental, and veterinary students enrolled in schools in the U.S. The goal of the HHMI Medical Research Fellows Program is to strengthen and expand the nation's pool of medically trained researchers. The fellowships provide funds to support fellows and meet their research- and education-related expenses.
